Chapter 19
Building a Strong and Resilient Nation
Achieving the Vision
Before you read
Kevin poses these at the start of the chapter, deliberately before his own argument. Answer them first if you can.
- 1
How do you think the power-responsibility principles could strengthen our nation?
- 2
How do you think they could make our nation more resilient?
- 3
What role do you think you could play in strengthening our democracy?
What the chapter says
Kevin’s own distillation, in his words — not a summary written for him.
The state of our nation should be of grave concern to every American citizen.
Various founders of our nation warned about the dangers of power concentration and specifically the dangers of political parties.
We must each help strengthen our nation’s immune system by demonstrating moral courage through staying true to our values and not ceding our personal power.
Personal power and the power-responsibility principles have always been the preventive medicine for fending off threats of manipulation and those who crave power.
We need the commitment of citizens like those reading this book to become part of a new America that fulfills our founders’ vision and our potential as a nation.
