Chapter 07
Unleashing Your Superpowers
Creating a Shift
Before you read
Kevin poses these at the start of the chapter, deliberately before his own argument. Answer them first if you can.
- 1
What are the things in your life over which you truly have power?
- 2
What are the things in your life for which you feel responsibility?
- 3
What do you think is the difference between influence and manipulation?
What the chapter says
Kevin’s own distillation, in his words — not a summary written for him.
We can only be responsible for things over which we have power and control.
For life lessons to become embedded in our brains, they must be accompanied by clearly correlated personal consequences.
We each only have power and control over ourselves.
We are never truly powerless if we choose to exercise the power over our minds, hearts, spirit, and values.
For things over which we don’t have power, we can negotiate or influence.
The dark side of responsibility, negotiation, and influence are guilt, manipulation, and threats.
